The sudden calamity which has fallen upon us in conse- quence of the quite unexpected war between England and Germany has compelled us to address your Excellency with the view to appeal to the generosity and justice of the British Governant in Hon KinĖ- and in the New Territory and to ask you, Honorable Sir, to take the necessary steps for preventing an extension of the hardships and the desolation of this unfortunate war ever the peaceful work of our Mission which in no manner is concerned with this deplorable affair.
