Directorate General of Posts,
Postmaster General's Office,
PEKING, 17 February 1914.
Sir,
I beg to inform you that the Chinese Government has notified the Swiss Federal Council of the adhesion of China from the 1st March next to the Universal Postal Convention of Rome of the 26th May 1906 and the Detailed Regulations for the execution of this Convention, with full effect from the 1st September next. I hope that through this happy event, which will doubtlessly be shortly notified to your Administration by the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, the existing postal relations between your country and China will be still further strengthened and intercourse fostered to the benefit of Great Britain and
China.
Consequent upon China's entry into the Union, the Postal Arrangement concluded between this Administration and the Administration of Hongkong on the 12th/29th December 1904 must be considered as abrogated from the 1st September next in accordance with Article 29 of the Universal Postal Convention, and as China intends to also shortly notify her adhesion to the Parcel Post Convention
The Postmaster General,
