In reply to your letter of the 15th ultimo
(22456/1914), I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury to request you to inform the Secretary
of State for the Colonies that They have been pleased to
award to Hr. R. A.J. Savage, late Superintendent of Hails,
Hongkong, a pension in respect of his previous service in
the General Post Office of Twenty five pounds fourteen shillings per annum which the Postmaster General has been
authorised to pay from the 14th February last inclusive.
As Mr. Savage's retirement is certified to be due partly to intemperance a deduction has been made from
the full award.
As regards Mr. Savage's letter of the 2nd ultimo I am to refer to the last paragraph of the letter from this Department of the 16th January last (25706/13), relative to the case of Mr. S. Crank, and to say that My Lords must leave the question of the amount of pension to which Mr. Savage is entitled from Hongkong funds to the decision of the Secretary of State.
I am,
Sir,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
Your obedient Servant,
