Sir:-
I have the honour to forward herewith copy of a
despatch from His kajesty's Consul-General at Canton
describing the effect produced on the German residents on
Shamien by the recent action of the Hongkong Government
in expelling enemy subjects from Hongkong.
The despatch leo contains particulars of the present
status of various German firms in Shamien, and confirme
the information already comunicated to you in my telegram
No. 234 of the 9th instant, regarding the changed in the
constitution of the firms of Carlowitz and Company and
Wendt and Company.
Before receiving this despatch I had informed Er.
Jamieson that the British subjects Reyner and Arnhold ap-ear-
ed to be acting on behalf of the firms, Carlowitz and
Company and Arnhold Karberg and Company and that their
dealings should be carefully watched.
