With reference to your letter No.49250/1914 of

the 15th instant, forwarding copy of a telegram from

the Governor of Hong-Kong concerning the employment

of German agents in China by British Insurance Compan-

ies, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit

to you herewith copies of telegrams sent on the 3rd

ultimo to His majesty's Minister at Peking and His a-

jesty's Consul-General at Shanghai respectively, in-

structing them as to the attitude of His Majesty's

Government on the subject.

I am to add that the Secretary of State is at pre-

sent in communication with the Board of Trade with re-

gard to the employment of German agents in Japan and I

an to forward to you herewith copies of the correspon-

dence which has passed with that Department on the

subject.
