Foreign Office, September 24, 1914. WITH reference to your letter of the 5th instant regarding the opium stocks awaiting entry into China, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you berewith copy of a despatch which he has addressed to His Majesty's Minister at Peking on the subject.*

I am to inform you that in forwarding to Peking copy of the Government of India's telegram of 19th August the last sentence has been omitted. Sir E. Grey is unable to endorse the opinion therein expressed, and he observes that it is not endorsed by the Secretary of State for India.
