FOREIGN OFFICE
November // 1914.
Sir: -
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to state
that he has under consideration the allocation of
expenditure in connection with the establishment, under
the draft China (Companies) Order in Council of a
Registry of Companies in Shanghai, subordinate to the
HongKong Registry.
Under the proposed arrangement, the office of
Deputy Registrar in Shanghai would devolve on His
Majesty's Consul General, but the whole of the fees
received would be paid over to the HongKong Government,
who would in return make a contribution towards the
necessary annual expenditure involved.
Sir E. Grey assumes that this contribution would
be measured by the cost to the Colony of maintaining
such a Registry at Shanghai, but he would be glad
to
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
