I have the honour to forward herewith for

your information copy of a despatch, and its en-

closures, addressed to me by the Governor of Hong-

kong, regarding the status of German property and

of German subjects on Shamden.

At Bir Henry May's request I proceeded on

the 11th instant to Hongkong and had an interview

with His Excellency and General Kelly. The lat-

ter was anxious that the views, to which he has

given expression in enclosure No. 3, should be

cabled to London, and, should that have been done,

I should have reported to you by telegraph.

Now,

however, that they are embodied in the form of

despatch I have not thought it necessary to do so.
