to you herewith, to be laid before the Secretary of

State for the Colonies, copy of a despatch from the

Judge of the Supreme Court for China enclosing copies.

authorities of sentences of deportation after imprison-

ment pronounced by the Supreme Court against persons

sent to Hong Kong to serve their sentences.

letter from the Colonial Office No. 40008/1909 of

December 21st 1909 in which letter it was stated that

legislation could be enacted by the Government of

Hong Kong which would obviate the necessity of sending

prisoners back to Shanghai on the expiration of their
