NESTLE AND ANGLO-SWISS CONDENSED MILK COMPANY,

6 and 8, EAST CHEAP,

LONDON, E.C.

27th June 1914.

R

Sir:

We beg respectfully to bring to your notice that the

Stenship "Taion" which left Hongkong on 27th April 1914

was attacked by Chinese pirates at 10 p.m. on the same

day near Wang Moon Island (North East of Macao) and

burnt to the water's edge.

By the destruction of this vessel, we have sustained

a loss of 261. 0. 0. representing the value of 232 cases

of Condensed Milk, which our nongkong depot despatched

by this steamer to their Agents at Kowloon. he should

esteem it a favour if you would advise whether it would

be possible for you to approach the Chinese Government on

our behalf, with a view to obtain compensation.

On account of the very considerable trade we are do-

ing throughout China, if it can be avoided we do not desire

our name to come into prominence with the Chinese Govern-

ment

The Under Secretary of State

for Foreign Affairs.
