HIS MAJESTY'S CONSULATE GENERAL,
MIXED COURT ASSESSOR'S OFFICE,
SHANGHAI.
December 11th,
1913.
307
Sir:-
I have read the draft of the proposed "Companies
(Bale of Shares) Regulations", and have the honour to
state that in my opinion the principle embodied therein
would be upheld in the Mixed Court. In support of
this opinion I have the honour to refer you to the
Judgment of the Mixed Court in the case of "Wingrove
and Burrett versus Waisun Kiloh", where it was held
that gambling transactions in shares were not only
void but illegal.
(Signed)
I have &c.,
3.A. Bourne, Esq., C.M.G.,
Acting Judge,
His Majesty's Supreme Court for China.
G.P. Garstin.
British Assessor.
