Panna Kong, 1818,
Mr. Scott,
Colonial Office.

In reply to your note of the 18th instant,
in view of the difficulty of obtaining life certifi-
cates from Colonial Officials at the Front,
we have
dispensed with the certificates and arranged with the
various Bankers, Army Agents, and Regimental Paymas-
ters to notify us in case of death, as the War office
has refused to give us any
information.
In addition,
we keep a look-out on the lists of casualties published
in the daily papers.
