glad to know whether a note stating that it is so

liable should be added. Nine constables have signed

agreements in which the present wording is used.

3. In regard to the third paragraph of the

Colonial Secretary's letter a return possage to England

on the satisfactory termination of the engement and

half salary during the voyage hus, so far us we are aware,

been provided for in all recent agreements drawn up by us

and we shall of course take care that this provision

appears in all future agreements; but we are not clear

whether it is desired that the conditions of service for

constables, which do not mention half pay on the voyage

home and which were printed in the Colony, should be

altered. It will be noticed that the Colonial Secretary

states that the half salary on the voyage home would be

payable at the rate of exchange current on the date of

payment. It hardly appears necessary to have a special

rate of exchange for these payments and we propose to

ask the Goverment to reconsider the matter before we

make any provisi n for it in the agreements.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Obedient Servant,
