With reference to your letter 10.44002-
the 29th of October 1902 informing us of the rate of
exchange at which it had been decided that the sterling
salaries of officers serving in Hong Kong should be
converted into dollars for the purpose of local payment, and instructing us to embody this ruling in the agreements signed by officers engaged by us for service in that Colony, I have the nonour to enclose a copy of a letter from the Goverment of Hong Kong notifying us of a change
I also enclose a draft which has been made in this rate. of the amended clause which we propose to insert in all Hong Kong agreements drawn up by us.
2. The conditions of service w.nch are embodied in the special form of agreement used for Hong Kong police constables (copy attached) have recently been amended to make them correspond with a set of conditions printed in the Colony and sent to us for issue to cendidates. It will be noticed that the new rate of exchange appears
in these conditions but that no mention is made of the fact that it is liable to alteration; and we shall be
