Now this Indenture witnesseth that the Contractors, so far as the provisions of these presents are to be performed and observed by them, do hereby for themselves and their permitted assigns covenant with the Crown Agents, and as a separate covenant with the Government and the Crown Agents as agents for and so as to bind the Government so far as the said provisions are to be performed and observed by the Government (but not so as to impose any personal liability on the Crown Agents or any of them or on any member or officer of the Government) do hereby contract and agree with the Contractors in manner following, that is to say:
1. The works are forthwith to be manufactured, constructed, erected and supplied in accordance with the Contract drawings and the provisions of this Contract in the best and most substantial and workmanlike manner with materials of the best and most approved qualities of their respective kinds, within such time and subject to such payments for non-completion as are hereinafter mentioned.
2. The Crown Agents shall pay the sum of £4153 14s. Id. (hereinafter referred to as the Contract Price ") to the Contractors at auch times and in such manner as is hereinafter mentioned.
3. AND IT IS HEREBY AGREED AND DECLARED that in the construction of this Contract and of the Schedules hereto the words" the Contract" shall mean and include this Contract and the Schedules hereto. The words the General Conditions" shall mean the General Conditions contained in the First Schedule hereto including also the Special Conditions of Contract. The words "the Specification" shall mean the Specifications contained in the Second Schedule hereto. The words" the Schedule of Prices "shall mean the prices contained in the Third Schedule hereto. The words "the Schedule of Plant and Material" shall mean the plant and material "the contained in the Fourth Schedule hereto. The words Schedules" shall mean and include the First Second Third and Fourth Schedules hereto.
Ju Jitness whereof the Crown Agents have hereunto set their respective hands and seals and the Contractors have caused their Common Seal to be hereunto affixed the day and year first above written.
The First Schedule hereinbefore referred to.

GENERAL CONDITIONS.
In this Contract and in the Schedules hereto (which shall be Definitions. deemed part of this Contract and shall be read and construed accordingly) the following words and expressions shall have the following meanings that is to say :—
(A) The words Crown Agents "shall mean the Crown Agents
for the Colonies.

(B) The word Engineers shall mean Messrs. Preece, Cardew and Snell of No. 8 Queen Anne's Gate West- minster or other the Engineers for the time being duly appointed to act as Engineers of the Crown Agents in the matter of this Contract.

(c) The word Inspector shall mean the Chief Inspecting Engineer appointed by the Crown Agents to inspect the work.
(D) The word “Colony" shall mean the Colony of Hong Kong.

(E) The word Contractors shall mean and include the Contractors parties hereto and all persons companies or corporations to whom (consistently with the provisions of this Contract) the benefit of this Contract or any interest therein may be assigned or sublet by the Contractors parties hereto.
(F) The word Works" shall mean the plant machinery and materials to be constructed supplied and erected by the Contractors hereunder.
