I have the honour to enclose a

valuation of the Stocks held as security

for the note issue of the Mercantile Bank

of India in Hong Kong, and also a copy of

a letter which we have received from that

Bank stating the amount of notes in circu-

lation, and the amount of coin deposited with the

Colonial Treasurer, on the 1st January 1914.

2. The valuation has been calculated

at the lowest prices of the 2nd January, and

shows a surplus of 215,520.10.10. The

amount of security required has been calculated

in accordance with section 4 of the Ordinance

No.65 of 1911, 1.8., that the amount of such

securities shall be equal in value to the

difference between the amount of the coin

deposited and the face value of the notes

in circulation with the addition of five

per centum.
