Appointed to enquire into certain charges against
Mr. P. A.V. Remedios
1st Grade Clerk, General Post Office.
1. The Committee met on Friday the 13th November 1914,
2. A copy of the charge is annexed and is marked "A",
3. The evidence taken is annexed and is marked "B"
4. The Registration and Parcel Branch of the General
Post Office is a space partitioned off from the rest of the
office by iron grilles and gates. Mr. Remedios kept one
of the keys to this enclosure, and on the date in question
the other key was in the custody of the officer on duty for
that Sunday. Inside the Branch there is a safe in which
insured letters are kept, and on the date in question it
contained 12 letters insured for 800 Francs each, or about
2400 in all.
Mr. Remedios kept one of the keys of this
safe and Mr. Martin, Superintendent of the Registration and
Parcels Branch, keeps the other.
No Government money is
ever kept in this safe, ur, Remedios admittedly used to
keep sʊme private money in it.
5. On Sunday the 11th October 1914 ur. Remedios sent
his son, a boy of sixteen, and his Chinese servant, whom he had know for nearly 30 years, to get g5. of his private
money out of the above safe. For this purpose he gave his
son the key of the Registration and Parcel Branch and the key
