With reference to my confidential despatch of the 1st December, I have the honour to transmit the enclosed copy of a letter from the Solicitors of the two principal lessors of offices leased to German Firms. This letter, which did not reach me in time to accompany my despatch under reference, urges the landlords
side of the question.
With regard to paragraph 8 of Messrs. Deacon, Looker Deacon and Harston's letter, I would remark that it is by no means certain that all the German Firms will wish to return to the Colony. On the contrary it is said that one or two have already avowed their intention of not returning.
With regard to paragraphs 9, 10 and 11, I am informed by the Attorney General, who is in close touch with the liquidators of German firms, that he has not heard of any German firm which does not desire to have its lease cancelled.
