Miss Parkinson was obviously somewhat rattled, and her only object in writing this pet- ition was to score off Dr Johnson; we do not know
rgue where she is now, and we should by no means with her. But there are some points which are not
clear.
As regards the passage, Dr Johnson appears to have behaved with perfect propriety, and is not answerable for any delay which occurred. But I should like to know (a) what was the date of Miss Parkinson's first ap, lication, and what were its terms; (b) whether the matter was in fact unduly delayed in the Col.Secret@y's Office; (c) what are the facts about her employment of a solicitor to enforce her claim for a passage at the higher rate. (I think it quite possible that her claim was never disputed, and she only imagined it was because on answer was delayed.)
As regards her application for leave before siling, she had had plenty of time to pack ete. and I don't think her trivial complaint on this
ground is worth notice.
? reply to Gov. that the S. of S. has no reason to think that Miss P. has any ground of complaint against Dr Johnson, but before he causes reply to be sent to her he would like infn. on the points about her passage
cited above.
pplication
(If she doesn't send her address in this count-
ry I doubt if we need reply at ali to her.)
