carts of ammunition and cannon, and five thousand infantry have
gone by or are here at Laichowfu city. Several thousand more

Lungkou and Shi Whei Towel, ports on the north of the Province,
about half have discharged their troops. People coming from that

The best people are driven from their homes and the soldiers go
in and take charge, eating what they want. All chickens are
caught up by the soldiers and eaten. On account of the king
their clothes were wet when they reached here. They built fires
in the middle of the rooms of many homes to dry their clothes,
and if the fuel inside was not sufficient they burnt furniture.
The burning of tables, chairs, and other furniture has been done
for cooking and drying clothes all along the way.
Terrifying the People.
It was hoped that the men would pass on, but on account of
rain they have halted here, Squads of a hundred or two hundred
are now going out into the country in all directions terrifying
the people, going into their homes, taking chickens, eggs or
anything else they choose. When they reach a village the people
are panic stricken and many flee, being helpless to protect
themselves.
