Hon.Kr. W. Chatham, C.M.G.
Dear Sir,
The present serves to explain to you my present posi-
tion of affairs, Since the commencement of the Chinese New
Year up to now my workmens wages etc. amounted to $5,700.
I have also paid #100. for water service and $600 for cement
and together with other incidental expenses amounted to almost
$7,000. During this whole period I received $1,000 last month
and a similar amount on the 3rd instant and there were the only
two payments altogether.
I now find that it would be impossible to continue
on without further funds to meet very pressing claims and in
furnishing you with above particulars I rely on you to be kind
enough to assist me again. I regret very much to be under the
necessity of applying to you for further payments but the
demands of my sundry creditors are urgent and I have no option
but to apply to you to render me some pecuniary assistance. I
must apologize for troubling you again and could only hope it
will be possible for you to make another payment so as to enable
me to settle the workmens accounts,
Yours faithfully,
(sd.) Chan A Tong.
