REC2
REGR 4 SEP 14
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
31st July, 1914.
235
Sir,
It is with deep regret that I have to announce
the death on the 21st instant of Sir Kai Ho Kai who died suddenly
of heat failure.
I visited him not long ago at his private residence and found him to be in such an evidently unsatisfatory state of health that his death did not cause me surprise.
All classes of the Community shewed their respect for the deceased by attending his funeral which was the largest that I have seen in Hongkong. I attach a newspaper account of it.
On the 30th instant I moved a resolution in the Legislative Council of which I enclose a copy together with an account of the proceedings in Council.
Sir Kai Ho Kai leaves a widow and sixteen children many of them of tender age. They are, I fear, in straitened circumstances. He has a daughter by his first wife, who was an English lady, resident in England.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Abs.
