gir,

I have the honour to request that Your

Excellency will be good enough to lay my name before the

Secretary of State as a candidate for promotion in the

judicial line.

I understand that the Chief Justiceships of

British Guiana and of the Straits Settlements are now

available and that there may be other vecancies. My

record shows that I have been on the Bench continuously for

six and a half years and that I had previously acted for

nine months as Attorney General of this Colony. I have

fifteen years standing at the English Bar. I need not say

that I shall be most grateful to Your Excellency for any

recognition of my claims that Your Excellency may feel able

to accord me.

His Excellency

Sir Henry May, K.C.M.G.,

Governor of Hongkong.

I have, etc.

Sd.

H. H. J. Gompertz

Acting Chief Justice.
