REO

Rea 29 AUG 14)

GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG.

23rd July, 1914.

Sir,

78 with reference to my despatch No.165 of the

73

13th May, 1913, I have the honour to inform you that Mr.

Gutierrez, 1st Grade Clerk in the Post Office, has, since

Mr. Savage departed on leave on the 14th May, 1913, until

that officer retired on the 13th February, 1914, performed

the duties of Superintendent of Mails in the Post Office

in addition to his own duties.

2.

During the whole of this period Mr.Gutierrez'

hours of duty were from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and he performed

his duties in a most thorough and painstaking manner. He

is, therefore, in my opinion deserving of special con-

sideration and I recommend that he be granted a bonus of

$480 or just over $50 a month.

3.

Mr. Gutierrez has continued since Mr.

Savage'a retirement to act as Superintendent of Mails as

Mr. Hynes the officer selected for the post is absent on

long leave. I propose to recommend Mr. Gutierrez for a

similar bonus when Mr. Rynes returns and takes up his

appointment.
