I have the honour to recommend that provision be

made in the Estimates for 1915 for the resumption of the pro-

perty, shown on the enclosed plan, lying between the compound

of the Central Police Station and Hollywood Road; and for the

building on it of the following accommodation for which there

is urgent necessity owing to the large increase of the Police

Force which has taken place since 1903 when, on the recommendat-

ion made in paragraph 6 of Sir H. Blake's despatch No.511 of the

6th of November in that year, the addition of a storey to the

main building was sanctioned: -

(a). Quarters for 94 Chinese Police.

Forty-six of these men are at present housed in

and dangerous arrangement owing to the risk from fire. The

remainder are allowed to occupy rented quarters out of Barracks

another undesirable arrangement owing to lack of supervision

and difficulty in assembling the men on emergency.

(b).

Quarters for 50 Indian Police.

Of these thirty-four are at present housed in a temporary matshed at what is known as No.2 Tank. This site is

ear-marked for married quarters for European Police and part of it is at present being built upon. It is very necessary that these men should be brought into barracks. The remainder are housed in No.8 Police Station where there is undesirable over-
