margin, I have the honour to

inform you that I have had

under consideration the ques-

tion of the pension to be granted to Lance-Sergeant D. Foley, who was recently retired from the service on the ground of 111- health.

2.

Mr. Foley joined the Hongkong Police Force on the 27th August, 1904, and he retired on the 11th April last His service, after deducting five months and one day in respect of half pay leave, is 9 years 2 months and 13 days. As he had, how- ever, previous service under the Crown in the Royal Navy before joining the Police Force, his case would appear to come within

Sub-section (1)(a) of Section 3 of the Police Pensions Minute

of the 25th May, 1896, under which he is entitled to an addition

of four years, being one-third of the aggregate of his service elsewhere than in the Colony, making his total service for pen-

sion 13 years.

The salary on which his pension is calculated is

£145 and the pension is £31.88.4d. I enclose copies of the pen-

sion paper and would be glad if the Crown Agents could be

instructed to pay the pension as it becomes due.

2

It is laid down in Mr. Chamberlain's despatches

No.57 of the 13th March, 1896, and No.548 of the 20th July, 1900,
