Aged 53 years, has had command in sail and steam
Served for 6 years out of Hongkong in
a number of years.
the Scottish Oriental Co. and had just got a permanent
command when all the ships of this firm were sold to the
Germans. Mr.Wetherell then became a 1st Class Pilot at
Foochow and stayed there some 10 years. He was in charge
of the P.& 0. S.8. Somali" when that ship went ashore,
which necessitated his leaving this service, but which he
claims wasnot his fault, and that no proper investigation
in the accident was held. Mr.Wetherell then came down to
Hongkong and obtained employment in the West River trade,
where he stayed until pirated and burnt out of his ship,
the S.S.Tai On", April, 1914.
