Sir,

The retirement of Lr. H. G. C. Fisher renders
possible a re-organization in the Public Works Department by which the Laintenance of Buildings and the Construction of New Buildings may be placed under the supervision of one and the same Executive
Engineer.
I am not quite informed as to Mr. Chatham's
ideas on this subject, but I think that he will agree with me and
even if it is carried out there will still remain the necessity of
appointing another Assistant Engineer so that the number of Engineers in the Department may not be diminished.
2.
I am uncertain however as to what particular
qualifications Mr. Chatham would desire in the new appointee. I have, therefore, asked him, through the Acting Director of Public Works
to comunicate with you on the subject.
3.
A Mr. G. C. Pentland has recently written to me
on the subject of Colonial employment. He is a relative of wine and I have sent his application to Mr. C. A. Harris. I should be glad if
his candidature could be considered.
I have the honour to be,
sir.
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
E RIGHT HONOURABLE
LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P.,
