My dear Suffiad,
I was more than distressed to get your letter
as I had always looked on you as quite a wealthy person. Of course I must help you directly I can, but at present it is out
of my power for reasons which it is very difficult to explain. But I have had an awful year financially, and though things are all
settled now I can't get any salary paid. The Government owes me
X10,000 arrears, and all I could wring out of them before coming
down here was $300!! Try and hang on as long as you can; and when I see my own way clearer, you shall have the $600. But I am doubt-
-ful if I can manage it before the end of the year.

Very sincerely yours,
(sd.) F. T. Piggott.
