Sir,
∙1933-4
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
your telegram of the 29th. ultimo to the following effect:-
My Despatch of 31st. March, No. 65, Secretary of State
for Foreign Affairs suggests that sentence should be
comuted to penal servitude for life:
2/508 and to confirm my reply of the 12th. instant which was as follows:-
Your telegram 29th. May case under consideration very bad
one and in interests of discipline shall feel constrained
to allow sentence of Court to be carried into effect if
the matter should be left to my decision.
2. I considered the case of Ibrahim in Executive
Council on the 11th. instant and the majority of the Council advised,
on the assumption that power to review the sentence lay with me,
that the law should take its course. With this advice I concurred
for the reasons indicated in my telegram.
