sir.
I have the honour to inform you that Mr. Ellis Kadoorie, a wealthy merchant and philanthropist resident here, has made a donation of 84,000 a year for 4 years to the Hongkong University. He has consented to perit his name to be associated with the Lecturership in Physics the greater part of the salary of which post (£400 per annum) will revert to the General Funds of the
University.
Mr. Kadoorie's generous assistance is very
opportune as the budget for the next financial year of the University shows a deficit of $4,000.
2.
I take this opportunity of informing you that the University recently presented its first degree to Dr. Thomas, the Chinese Resident Surgeon at the Tung Wa Hospital. Dr. Thomas was a licentiate of the former Hongkong College of Medicine.
I have the honour to be,
sir.
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
