on an Ordinance entitled An Ordinance to provide
for the public lighting of the Colony and for the
protection of the appliances used in connection
therewith.

1/- The object of this Bill is to provide for the protection of
public lighting appliances turoughout the Colony. The existing
Ordinance, namely, the Victoria (Lighting) Ordinance, 1856, applies
only to the City of Victoria, and it has been found desirable that
the provisions dealing with the protection against damage to, or
improper interference with, public lighting appliances should be
extended to the whole Colony.

No. 3 of 1856, except that it applies to the whole Colony, and that as the Ordinance will cover rural as well as urban districts the

Section 4 is practically the same as Section 5 of Ordinance No. 3 of 1856, except that it is now made an offence to interfere in any way with the light of a street lamp even if the light be
not actually extinguished.
Section 5 is the same as Section 6 of Ordinance No. 3 of 1856. Section 6 is practically the same as Section 7 of Ordinance
No. 3 of 1856.
Section 7 is the same as Section 8 of Ordinance No.3 of 1856. Section 8 saves the liability imposed by Section186 of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance, 1903 upon the owers of the land adjoining private streets to contribute to the cost of pro-
viding lighting apparatus.
Section 9 is formal.
