I have received from the Matron a form which I
have been instructed to present to the Treasury in order to obtain
a gratuity which the Goverment has awarded me on leaving the Service on the occasion of my marriage.
While expressing my appreciation and gratitude
for this recognition I trust I may be allowed to enquire whether the sum mentioned (21,080) is correct. I understand the gratuity is at the rate of one month's salary for each year of service. In the past six years I have received a monthly salary of between a hundred and forty-six dollars and a hundred and sixty-six dollars, the sum given me only represents a salary at the rate of 290 per month. Would point out that I am thus placed in a position of disadvantage as compared with Sisters junior to me who draw salary at Sterling rates, who would, under similar circumstances, be awarded a gratuity which would amount to about
33% more.
I trust I am not out of order in submitting this
point for consideration.
