it would cost the applicant and tell the applicant what it would
cost him and I should tell him the matter would be done at the
Registry. I have never seen you receive money although I knew you did receive it and sold stamps. You received money in cash to my
knowledge. I did not know you did not apply it immediately.
I should as a rule, sea that stamps were affixed before I
simed: but not always; I don't remember ever being told you had
the cash or stamps would affix them afterwards.
Probate file No. 75/13. I signed the papers on 15th. February,
1913, without the stamp being on: I did this for convenience of
the people: bit I did not know you had the money but I do not know
that I remember this case.
I remember that there was a complaint about too much work in
the office. I have a hazy recollection that you complained about
having too much work and much delay in the way of the pauper
estates. It was common knowledge that in many pauper cases there
was much delay due to sureties not being satisfactory.
I don't remember in the H. K. & S. B. case where there were
$12 to pay you told me that you had the $12 and were going to return it pending the completion.

Hr. Charles Alexander Dick Melbourne: Deputy Registrar and Appraiser: since September, 1909: Hr. Alim Khan was there when I
went I was away on other duty all this year till Aust and practically all last year. I have dealt with Probate and Letters
of Administration cases and they all passed through my hand. All pe
pauper cases went to Mr. A. K. first and he, after getting per-
-mission, prepared the papers. There would be certain fees payable:
I thought the shroff received the fees; I was unaware that Mr.
A. Khan received cash. I didn't know how the stamps got on the
documents. The shroff kept the atamps. Exhibit G: I cannot say if
it is in the ordinary form.
I believe I have signed documents without the stamps, but I should have asked Mr. Alim Khan (if the brought the papers) if the shroff had received the money for the stamps. Mr. Alim Khan was
a good clerk.
