Mr. Alim Khan sent the cheque by the messenger to the

Bank and duly received the cash. On the same day a letter marked Blue "G" amongst the exhibits, was prepar- -ed by Mr. Alim Khan and signed by Mr. McElderry, then Acting Deputy Registrar, acquainting the Deputy Commissioner of the Hoshiarpur District with the fact that a Money Order to the equivalent of 8213. 93 had been remitted to him through the Money Order Office of the Colony for transmission to the relatives of the deceased Gahnaya Singh. On August 20th., 1913, a reply, marked Blue "H" amongs the Exhibits, was received from the Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur informing the Official Administrator that he had received Rs. 145/5 in connection with the above Estate and acknowledging the letter of 17th. April, 1913. It is important, here, at this stage, to point out that the letter from the

Official Administrator dated 17th. April, 1913, to the Deputy Commissioner of the Hoshiarpur District Punjab India did not specifically mention the Rupees equivalent of the $213.93 of the transmission of which this letter

was the advice; the words used being

"I beg to enclose my administration account of the Estate of the above named deceased shew- -ing a credit balance of $213,93 local currency, the equivalent of which has been remitted to you through the Money Order

Office of this Colony".

It is also, equally important to observe that in the letter from the Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur, dated 31st. July, 1913, to the Official Administrator at Honkong, the writer is evidently unaware that Rs.145.

proper

6 is not the equivalent of $213.93, as the language

used in that letter runs

that

"Have the honour to forward herevith &

Ի

receipt for Rs. 145/5 or $213.93".
