Ir. Tan Tsung Hing did not keep a Cash book: I used to make y

entries then from the counter-foil books, in my Collection book and

compare them with the entries in the Shroff's book which ere not

then checked by the Assistant Harbour Master.

y assistant last checked the accounts in the Junk office

in APRIL tuis year: it was not my duty to do so: I did so up to

Abril because the Chroffs were slow and the witness wanted to now

how such money he would have to pay into the Bank: I could not

ascertain this without the counterfoils being looked at. Every

evening at 4 P., the books were sent upstairs to be checked by

the Assistant Harbour laster and this has been done since 1910.

There was no other check since April. I do not know if you kept

any other books besides the Shroff's collection book, In ay 1913

I handed some forms to tie J nk office Shroffs for them to copy

the entries from their collection books on them.

I remember Tinute of 9th ay 1913(.rked

The Assistant Harbour l'aster said to me that he had no

objection to the accounts being copied from the Siroffs books on-

t form C. P. 2; i. e, copied by y clerks.

I understood from Cowsander "eckwith's order : 6th Te

ruary 1911 (C.P.3) that I was in charge of the accounts on the up-

per floor: I was not in charge of the Junk office accounts; before

April used to go through the Junk office accounts to ascertain

the amounts not to audit or check them.

Tide was not a recognized check. I gave it up because

I found I could get y information from the Assistant Harbour Master

figures.

The Arsistant Harbour Faster checks accounts every after-

noon and pays in at noon daily; for the afternoon of the previous

day and the morning of the current day.
