the Hongkong Birth Certificate the following statement:-
"This Certificate is not available for the purpose of
obtaining at a British Consulate in China registration as a British Subject or as a person entitled to British protection in China".

I should also be glad if instructions could be given to Consular Officers in China to furnish this Government with a statement of the names of all persons from this Colony who have been registered as British subjects together with a descrip- -tion of the document on which such registration was effected. A similar statement should in future be sent monthly to this Covern-
-ment.
