I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter
No. 15007/1013, dated 8th. May, in reply to mine to the Colonial
Secretary, dated 2nd. of same month.
It has occurred to me that, as the instructions given to
the Royal Commission on fevers, now sitting, does not mention
avid rõinedine that they have to deal with preventive measures, these will not

come within the scope of the Commissioner's duties. I have
therefore the honor to bring before the notice of Government
my knowledge on these two important subjects. As will be seen
by enclosed copy of my printed memo. of 15th. April 1909, I
designated AMMONIA as the best agent for neuteralizing these
Poisonous gases which I have shown to be produced by the action
of nitre upon certain metals of the platinum group, contained
in the rocks. I am now, after two years' study of the matter
quite sure that I am correct in my hypothesis.
The enclosed copy of a letter to me from Mr. Hans Carl Gustav
Doring, an agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society, gives
