Mr. Turner is 31 years of age. His father was a
boilermaker., and after leaving the Elementary School in
1895 Mr. Turner worked as an apprentice and later as a
journeyman painter until 1904. In that year he took up
teaching as a pupil teacher in the Thornton Public School,
and in 1906-7 and 1907-8 he underwent his professional
training as a teacher at Edinburgh and obtained his
Teachers Certificate in 1910 after serving the necessary
two years probation in the Methil Public School. During
the necessary the years 1906-10 he attended soverall classes at
Edinburgh University with a view to obtaining his degree.
He has not, however, completed the examination for his
degree owing to his appointment at Singapore.

Besides obtaining *ke Pass Certificates for the
M.A. Degree, Mr. Turner obtained the Class Certificate
in educational problems at Edinburgh University, and
certificates for teachers'classes in Practical Chemistry
and Swedish Drill held by Provincial Committees of
Glasgow and St. Andrews. Mr. Turner has also been through
a course of Manual Training and can teach Drawing.
Besides his teaching experience in Scotland Mr.
Turner has been for two years and four months in
Singapore
