You

In reply to your letter of 30th June last, relative to

the "Aga" System of lighting Buoys, which the Governor of

Hong Kong is proposing to adopt for the fairway Buoys st

that place, I am directed to acquaint you, for the infor-

Eation of r. Secretary Harcourt, that for localities

where there are no means for providing for a supply of

oil-gas for lighted Buoys, the Elder Brethren consider that

the "Aga" system of dissolved acetylene is preferable to

the "Wigham" method of lighting, provided a continuous supply

of necessary acetylene illuminant can be relied on, and if

the Colonial Authorities at Hong Kong can adapt the exist-

ing Wigham Buoys by making the necessary alterations for

the reception of the dissolved acetylene gas holders, these

Buoys will be more reliable in service and the intensity

of the light will be much greater than at present.

L

The Under Secretary of State,

The

Colonial Office,

Downing Street,
