In the case of the Press cable rates, as you will remember, the Union has brought consider. able pressure to bear both in China and also in London, and though the rate which was urged of 8d. per word to Pekin is not at the moment granted, we shall continue our efforts, and mean- while the reduction between Great Britain and China from 1s. 54d. per word to 1s. 2d., and Japan is. 7d- to 1s. 3d. indicates satisfactory progress.
