Dear Mr Johnson,
Referring to our interview yesterday, as to the Hongkong Press Tariff, the Chinese Telegraph Convention of 11th July 1896 has been extended by a subsequent, Agreement
until the 31st December 1930.
By the arrangement made with Reuter's Telegram Co, each paper in Hongkong pays $300 per month = $3,600 per
anmum,or £330. For this amount they receive slightly over 170,000 news words per annum, so that each paper by subscrib- ing $300 per month pays a little under d per word for news. At one time there were only three papers subscribing at Hongkong, but there are now five papers. With three papers subscribing we obtained 14d per word for news; with five, we are receiving ad per word.
I enclose a print of the correspondence relating
to the Empire News Service.

Yours faithfully,
