I am directed to inform you that a request has been
made to the Council of this Association that they should
furnish gratuitously examples of electrical machinery and
apparatus to be installed as demonstration apparatus at the
University of Hong Kong. The request is in the name of
Professor C.A. Middleton Smith, of the Engineering Faculty,
who is now in this Country and appears to be well recommended.
In the event of my Council being satisfied that they
should accede to the request, my Council would consider
advising the members of this Association to make such gifts
as would probably approximate in value to several thousands
of pounds, having regard to the desirability or encouraging
the use of British machinery abroad.
I ax, therefore, to ask you to be kind enough to give me,
