GENERAL POST OFFICE, LONDON.
REC (RFG | JUN 13)
10 June 1913.
Sir,
You
With reference to your letter of the 7th of last month, No. 10723/1913, I am directed by the Postmaster General to acquaint you, for Mr. Secretary Harcourt's information,
that he has been in communication with the Treasury on
the subject of the loss incurred in the working of the
British Postal Agencies in China excluding "ei-hai-wei during the year 1910, and I am to transmit the attached copy of a letter dated the 2nd of April last received from
the Treasury.
On the basis of calculation laid down in that letter
the amount still owing by this Office to the Hong Kong
Administration in respect of the loss for the year mentioned
would appear from the accounts fumished by the Colonial
Post Office to be approximately £1600. These accounts
however require further verification and adjustment on
certain minor points as to which the Accountant General
of this Department is about to communicate with the
Postmaster General of Hong Kong, who will at the same time
be authorised, pending the final verification, to take
credit for a sum of £1500 as a further payment on account.
The Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Eifrabs
