Sir,

General.
With reference to Mr. Read'a letter of the 7th
instant (14844/1913) I am directed to state that the Board of
Elucation have arranged to interview some of the applicants
for the post of Junior Assistant Master in the Education Department of Hong Kong on Friday the 30th instant.
The Board
at present propose to summon two candidates from England to the interview and it is possible that the Scotch Education
Department may wish to summon one Scottish candidate. As the field of applicants is not a strong one the Board might wish to invite one or two more English candidates should any who appear suitable apply before the date fixed for the interview,
In this connexion I am to refer to Sir R. I. Antrobus's
letter of the 4th March 1909 (3887/1909) and to inquire
whether the Secretary of State is prepared to sanction the payment of the expenses of the candidates summoned for the
interview in accordance with the terms agreed upon in paragraph 2 of Sir R. L. Antrobus's letter as amplified in Sir H. W. Just's letter of the 9th September 1909 (28604/1909).
fameral These payments have been sanctioned in three cases in which the Board have been asked to recruit candidates for appointments
?
in Ceylon the salaries of which exceeded £250.
The
reference numbers of the Colonial Office letters referring
these appointments to the Board were respectively
