from the date of your arrival in the Colony and
that, if it is established to the satisfaction of
the Governor that you are not qualified for
efficient service there, he will subject to
the confirmation of the Secretary of State,
have full power to cancel your appointment at
any time within the said three years without
giving you any further compensation than a
passage back to England, which will be granted
only if the Governor is satisfied that you have
by your good conduct deserved it. If not pre-
viously terminated, or expressly continued, the
appointment will cease at the end of the said
three years, and you will then be given a free
passage back to this country, provided that your
work and conduct have been satisfactory.If it is
continued, you will be placed on the pensionable
establishment of the Colony and your salary will
be increased to £220. In that event your first

three years service will count as service for the
purposes of leave and pension, but you will lose
your right to a passage back to England. The main
rules as to leave and pension are given in the
print Eastern No. 121.

4. It is also to be understood
that your services will be available
for any duties upon which the Governor
in the interest of the public service,
may think it desirable to employ you, and
that you may be required to teach in any
school in the Colony.

It will be necessary for you
to express your acceptance of the condi-
tions stated in this letter before your
selection can be completed. In other
respects you will be subject to the
Colonial Regulations in force for the
time being and to the General Orders
issued from time to time by the Colonial
Government. A copy of the latest edition
of the Colonial Regulations is enclosed.
The appointment is under the Colonial
Government, and your emoluments will be
paid solely from the funds of the Colony.
