With reference to your letter of the 4th of November last.

Governor of Hong Kong on the subject of the contribution of that Colony towards the subsidy payable in respect of the Mail
Service performed by the Peninsular and Oriental Steau
Navigation Company, I am directed by the Postmaster General to transmit to you, for the information of the Secretary of
State for the Colonies, the accompanying copy of a letter which has been sent from this Office to the Treasury on the
28th ultimo.

As will be seen from this communication, the Postmaster
General has made arrangements with the Company for the extension of the existing Contract for one year, and he
proposes in due course to put forward suggestions for the
rearrangement of the incidence of the subsidy to come into
operation after the 31st of January 1915, the earliest date on
which the present Contract could have been determined,
