I am commanded by the Army Council to forward you

copies of correspondence between the Governor of Hong Kong

and this office on the subject of his Aides-de-Camp and,

reference to the letter of the 15th January last, No: 10691/2

on the question of the number of regular Officers who may be

allowed to serve on the personal Staff of a Colonial Governor,

I am to enquire whether the Secretary of State for the

Colonies is of opinion that a second Aide-de-Camp is necessary.

If so it will be advisable to select an Officer from the

Reserves or the Territorial Force.

With regard to the request in paragraph 3 of Sir

F. May's letter dated 6th of January, I am to say that even

if the employment of a second regular Officer were approved, the Council are not prepared to approve the waiving the

conditions of Article 485 of the Pay Warrant.
