(Copy) C. 9920.

Gentlemen,

BOARD OF TRADE, (Commercial Department),

Gwydyr House, Whitehall,

London, S.W.

18th December, 1912.

I am directed by the Board of Trade to advert to correspondence which has recently passed between you and their Commercial Intelligence Branch relative to information which has reached you to the effect that a firm in Hong Kong has put a brand of whisky on the market at a price at which it would be impossible to supply

Scotch Whisky.

The information at present before the Board is too vague to enable them to judge whether the case is one

They in which they could usefully take any action. would be prepared, however, to give further consideration to the matter in the event of your being able to furnish them with the name and address of the Hong Kong firm in question with specimens of the labels placed on the casks or bottles in which the whisky is sold, and with satis- factory proof that the whisky is other than that which it is indicated on the labels to be. Such proof might, it is suggested, take the form of a certificate given by some public analyst in this country relative to his analysis of a sample of the whisky.
