re the "Tai On" Piracy case in China

I am directed by the Committee of the China Coast

Officers' Guild, an organisation representing nearly

all the Captains and Officers of vessels truding on

this coast, to express through you to the British

Government their profound indignation at the treatment

accorded to one of their members by the Harbour

Authorities in Hongkong in the matter of the "Tai On"

piracy case, and their earnest desire that your

Government will make strong representations to the

Chinese Government for full compensation for the loss

of the officer's property and money which was the direct

result of the non maintenance of law and order, and to

further request that proper protection for British

subjects in these waters shall be provided in future
